High School Sweethearts Say “I Do” at Hawthorne House: Lilly & Alex’s Elegant June Wedding
Lilly and Alex’s love story began years ago as high school sweethearts, and on June 21, 2025, they brought that full-circle moment to life with a beautifully planned wedding at Hawthorne House. With thoughtful details, classic design choices, and personal touches woven throughout the day, their celebration was a heartfelt reflection of their journey—and a perfect kickoff to married life.
Lilly and Alex started the day off-site with their wedding party before arriving at Hawthorne House, a venue they selected for both its stunning chapel and purpose-built reception space. “We really wanted a chapel wedding,” Lilly shared. “And Hawthorne House felt like it was truly designed for weddings—plus, the staff really gets this industry. That was important to us, since we’re new to all of this!”
The couple exchanged vows in the elegant white chapel, complete with an altar table and thoughtful florals provided by Wild Hill Flowers. Guests were welcomed with live music from a string quartet, KC Strings, adding a romantic and timeless feel to the ceremony. After sealing their vows, it was time to celebrate—and celebrate they did!
Lilly and Alex were especially excited about planning the vibe and décor for their big day. Working with Jennifer from Belle & Bows, they created an aesthetic that felt elevated and personalized. From rentals and signage by Nellie Sparkman to linens from Supply Event Rentals, every element came together beautifully. They even brought a life-sized horse poster to add a fun and unexpected pop of personality with a nod to Lily’s profession.
During cocktail hour and into the reception, guests enjoyed outdoor games like corn hole, giant Jenga, and tic tac toe—a perfect way to take advantage of the beautiful June weather and the property’s expansive outdoor lawn. Inside the Emerson Room, the celebration continued with a delicious dinner by Olive Events Catering and desserts from Bloom Baking Co.
The couple made a splash (literally!) with a champagne tower during their grand entrance—an unforgettable, celebratory moment that marked the start of the evening. Guests were also treated to signature Cosmos, a passed champagne toast, and an open bar featuring local favorites like Goose Island IPA and Modelo Especial.
When asked about their proposal story, Lilly shared a sweet winter memory. “Alex told me we were going to look at the Christmas tree at Union Station,” she said. “But then he suggested we stop at the WWII Memorial to see the skyline. We took some pictures—and then he proposed with the skyline behind us!” That blend of thoughtful planning and meaningful moments carried through into their wedding day.
Lilly and Alex now live in Kansas City, where you can often find them on date night at Extra Virgin or grabbing a cozy coffee at City Market Coffee. But on this day, they were surrounded by over one hundred guests who celebrated the start of their forever. It was a wedding full of love, laughter, and intentional beauty—just like their story.
